About the owner, Kristen Shubert:
Kristen Shubert first came to Ventura for an IJSBA jet ski race in 2002 while competing on the National Tour. The area caught her attention for the hometown feel and accessibility to the ocean. Kristen finally moved to California in 2012, after getting married to Anthony Lopez. She had previously built her career in the food and beverage world in Las Vegas, NV for 25 years, managing the fine dining restaurants Lawry’s, Smith & Wollensky, Eiffel Tower, and attaining the level of Food & Beverage Director at the Sands/Venetian complex from 2004 -2009. While working in fine dining, Kristen was responsible for writing several of the cities best wine lists, and developed her passion for wine into a career path for the future. Kristen is a certified Sommelier, and was a member of the US Wine Tasting Team, who placed third in the world at the international competition in Provence, France in October, 2016. She was the first woman to ever be on the US Team.In March, 2017, she had the opportunity to open VInTura Tasting Room. In August 2018, Kristen Shubert and her partner, Lisa Stoll, placed FIRST in the United States Blind Wine Tasting Championship. Held in Marina Del Rey by Wine Acuity, Kristen demonstrated her skills by correctly identifying the Varietal, Country, region, vintage year AND producer of one of the wines in the contest!
She currently presides over 72 types of wine served by the taste, glass, flight, or bottle, and is the creator of the tasting game,” Wine Wars.”(Trade-marked by Shubert) She plans to use her Culinary background to create a unique menu of small plates to be offered in the future and at Winery events each month. She is also a member of The Court of Master Sommeliers, and is active in the community with the Downtown Merchants Association, FARM, and the Arts & Eats program, as well as volunteering for various local charities. You may recognize her bright orange jet ski jumping waves in the harbor on bright, sunny mornings.
